Hong Kong's literature is famous for its
so many writers and works with different styles. For example, the
number of writers who have ten or above works is over 1000. Besides
some serious literature with new methods and deep meaning, the main
part of Hong Kong literature is popular literature which includes
swordsman story, love story, detective story and historical novels.
In Hong Kong, the column content is the best symbol for "fast-food
culture". The writers in Hong Kong not only include the native
people but also the immigrants from inland and foreign countries.
The Hong Kong swordsman story has occupied its site in the literature
history by the great influnce of Liang YuSheng and Jin Yong. The
love story often gets the materials from the bumpy life and voices
women's wishes for love and happiness. The financial story maily
written by Liang FengYi is the novel to express the Hong Kong people's
mind and social life.

Chinese-language film
Hong
Kong is the biggest Chinese-language film production area outside
China mainland. Of course Hong Kong is an important film manufacturing
base. Hong Kong's film number is only fewer than USA and India's,and
stands at the third in the world。Hong Kong's films usually produced
by private companies. The income of box office always plays a key
role in these companies' existence and development. Big companies
can produce about 10 films every year. On the contrary, the small
doesn't have this capacity, sometimes they only have one work in
several years. Those big companies, such as Golden Harvest, are
the VIP in Hong Kong film industry. The HKFA (Hong Kong Film Awards)
also has a great influence around the Asia area.
Hong Kong's Television
Hong Kong's modern industrial management in TV began in 1960s and
1970s, became mature in 1980s. The consequence of this kind of management
is represented by gaining profit during productions. To get more
profit, television companies usually select the popular subjects
to meet public 's taste; and pay attention to training stars, like
Chow Yun-Fat, Andy Lau and other famous stars. Classical TV series
in 1980s: "Shanghai Beach"(《上海滩》), "A Man in Net"(《网中人》)(TVB) in
1982,"Lovers and Super Hawk"(《神雕侠侣》)(TVB) in 1983,"Legend of Deer
Mountain"(《鹿鼎记》), "Freshman"(《新札师兄》)(TVB) in 1984 ;"Heaven spirits"(《天灵》),
"Ten Brothers"(《十兄弟》), "First Emperor(《秦始皇》)(ATV).

Mass Media in Hong Kong |

The
mass media is always developing in highly-opening and free-competition.
The newspaper circulation is up to 300 per 1000 people, which is
only lower than Japan in Asia. Hong Kong has an advanced Television-Radio
broadcasting network. 5.12 million who are over 4 years old, spend
3.7 hours per day in watching kinds of programs. As a result, common
families usually let their TV be on for almost 7 hours per day.
During
Hong Kong's development as a free port and financial centre, Hong
Kong has become an international information centre where 120 foreign
media companies, including main western news agencies, set up their
subdivisions or Asian-pacific area divisions. Newspapers and magazines
overseas can be freely published in Hong Kong. While, some large-scale
newspapers also have their foreign editions for Chinese people communities
around the world. Hong Kong TV and radio programs are welcomed to
other countries and areas. To mainland of China, Hong Kong has been
a main opening window to communicate with world.

Painting and Sculpture |

Hong
Kong's painting art is divided into traditional Chinese painting
and western painting. The representative artists of traditional
Chinese painting are Ren ZhenHan, Zheng JiaZhen, Li XunPing, Zhao
ShiGuang, Chen HaiYing and Wu BuYun. The western painting art, such
as oil painting, water colour painting, sketch and printmaking,
was accepted long time ago. The oil painting, of course, is in a
significant position. Since 1970s, many young artists from China
mainland, TaiWan and other countries start a new wave in oil painting
creation.
The modern sculpture art also got rapid development in recent years.
The works of Zhang Yi and Wen lou who graduated and returned from
TaiWan are the reasonable examples of the development. Their practical
but containing modern spirit and techniques sculptures has got the
widely praises. Today, most sculptures in Hong Kong is going to
show their new ideas in materials, creating and inner meaning.

Art of Photography |
|
Hong Kong has been called "Kingdom of Photography"
for years. In 1988, 12 Photography Assosiations from Hong Kong and
Macao joined in and set up Hong Kong-Macao Photography Assosiation.
In 1992, this organization held a grand "the photography art
forum of Chinese photographers" to invite world Chinese photographers
to explore new phtography methods. In this forum, many artists showed
their works and let the native photographers have an opportunity
to improve their skills in art.
